Augsburg taste Baroque master drawings from the holdings of the art collections

31.07.28.09.2025 at Schaezlerpalais

A selection of 120 drawings from the holdings of the Graphic Art Collection of the Augsburg Art Collections and Museums provides a comprehensive overview of the art of drawing in German-speaking countries from 1600 to around 1780. One focus of the collection is on the art of drawing in Augsburg, a city that was one of the innovative centres of art in Germany in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The exhibition shows designs for ceiling frescoes and altarpieces, models for copperplate engravings, sculptures, and family register pages as well as portraits and landscapes. Artists such as Johann Rottenhammer, Johann Heinrich Schönfeld and Joseph Werner epitomise the high quality of the art of drawing in Augsburg in the 17th century, while Johann Wolfgang Baumgartner, Johann Georg Bergmüller and Johann Evangelist Holzer represent it in the 18th century.

We cordially invite you to the opening on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, at 6 pm.
