Educational Programs and Guides Tours
With our guided tours, we showcase the vibrant diversity of the permanent and special exhibitions in our museums. In open conversations, experts provide access to topics that are not always part of everyday life. In addition, you have the opportunity to experience the museums from a different perspective during evening events, concerts, lectures, workshops, and readings. (Please note that most of our events will be held in German)
For visitors who wish to explore an exhibition or museum without a guide, we offer audio guides at the Schaezlerpalais and the Maximilianmuseum. Specifically for young visitors, students from Schillerschule and the International School Augsburg have developed an audio guide for the Maximilianmuseum in German and English.
We are also happy to arrange private tours for our visitors with different thematic focuses on the permanent and special exhibitions. We offer tours in English, Italian, and French. Tours in additional languages can be arranged upon request.
Group events can also be booked for children and teenagers. Birthday celebrants of all ages can choose from attractive offers.
Kids & Families
In our children’s and family tours, we take young and old participants on an unforgettable journey!
During school holidays, we offer special programs where fun and creative activities take center stage. Children with an interest in philosophy can explore different questions and discover a new approach to art in our “Philosophy and Art” workshop.
Schools
We have numerous offerings for all age groups, school types, subjects, and topics.
The range of interactive ways to learn about the art history and scientific content of our exhibitions goes from trying on Roman clothes in the Roman camp in the armory to practicing historical dances in the ballroom of the Schaezler Palace to learning artistic photography at the Center for Contemporary Art in the Glass Palace.
At the Maximilian Museum, we offer an audio tour in German and English that was developed and recorded by students for students.
In addition, we offer the opportunity for larger school projects in connection with our museums. For teachers, training courses and classes are held on the permanent and larger special exhibitions.
Universities
We welcome project collaborations with universities, colleges, academies, and other institutions at any time. Examples of successful projects include:
- Development of an augmented reality app for a special exhibition in collaboration with Hochschule Augsburg
- Collaboration on a panel discussion for a special presentation with the Master's program Fachdidaktische Vermittlungswissenschaften at the University of Augsburg
- Technology weeks organized by the State Institute for the Training of Teachers at the Römerlager im Zeughaus and the Maximilianmuseum
- Exhibition collaborations with the Leopold Mozart Center at the University of Augsburg
Interested students are also welcome to apply for an internship or volunteer position with us at any time.
Accessability
For people with individual needs and wishes, we are always ready to listen and offer customized tours where artworks, history, and much more are presented in an accessible and understandable way.
Among other things, we offer tours in plain language, in German Sign Language, and for people who are blind or visually impaired. On request, descriptive texts can be provided in Braille.
German at the Museum
Museum accessibility – this also applies to language barriers. For people with a migrant background, refugees, or visitors who want to learn German, we offer guided tours of our exhibitions in a pleasant atmosphere. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the language, art, and culture of our country.
For example, students can try on baroque clothing and dance at the Schaezlerpalais, while learning everyday words and phrases in a playful way with language learning cards. Summer language course groups also find supportive tours and offers in our buildings.
Travel groups
We are happy to guide travel groups through our permanent exhibitions and special presentations in all our venues. We also offer tours in English, Italian, and French.
Tours in additional languages can be arranged upon request. Depending on your interests and time availability, we tailor the tours specifically to your group.
Please note that large bags (larger than A4), backpacks, and umbrellas must be checked in, and tripods as well as selfie sticks are not permitted.
