Hiroshima Black Rain Hibakusha / SheltersTwo part exhibition on the terrible consequences of war

24.07.-25.09.2022 at Halle 1 – Raum für Kunst im Glaspalast

Hiroshima Black Rain Hibakusha

Hibakusha is the Japanese word for people that got affected by the atomic bomb. They suffer from various diseases, including cancers caused by internal exposure. But the government rejects to recognize them as Hibakusha simply because they underestimate the effects of low dose radiation and internal exposure. This attitude of the government is the very reason for the confusion in the attempt to protect humans and nature in postFukushima Japan. The photos were taken after the coordination with the Liaison Council of Black Rain Hibakusha Groups. Thomas Damm and students of the faculty of International Studies of the Hiroshima City University visited each of the 13 hibakushas at home to interview and portrait them.

Shelters

Shelters Manar Bilal has been taking photographs in refugee camps in the Middle East and Europe since 2011. He has worked there mainly with children who have been injured or traumatised by war. His work consists of providing psychological and social support so that children or refugees can have a little hope, endure the living conditions in the camp and dream of a better future.

The exhibition is part of the program for the Augsburg Peace Festival on August 8, 2022. Click here for more inforamtion: www.friedensstadt-augsburg.de/de/kulturprogramm
