Müller's Painting Room – Augsburg Caricatures by Klaus Müller
13.03. – 13.09.2026 at the Museum's Café of the Schaezlerpalais
Creative people are rare. But Klaus Müller is not only a talented actor, he is also a skilled illustrator and watercolourist. He has been earning a bit extra with his cartoons and caricatures since his student days.
In addition to his work as an actor (Kammerschauspieler) at the Staatstheater Augsburg, he has been showing a new side to everyday life in Augsburg in an ironic way in the arts section of the ‘Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung’ almost weekly since 2016.
A small selection of his caricatures from ‘Müller's Painting Room’ is on display here in the museum café of the Schaezlerpalais. A hearty laugh is guaranteed!
You are cordially invited to the opening on Thursday, 12 March 2026, at 6 p.m., in the Museum's Café of the Schaezlerpalais.
Artist's Biography Klaus Müller (*1961 in Bad Hersfeld in Hessen)
Raised in a Catholic family, Klaus Müller first studied in Fulda and Munich graduating with a degree in Catholic theology. After completing his studies, he transferred to the Max Reinhard Seminar for Acting and Directing in Vienna. After graduating, he received his first engagements at the Burgtheater in Vienna and at the Salzburg Festival among others.
Since 1996, he has been a permanent member of the local theatre, later the Staatstheater Augsburg. He has played around 150 roles under five artistic directors. In 2006, he received the Augsburg Theatre Prize for his versatility. The Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and the State Theatre honoured him as an exceptional artist in 2025 with the honorary title of “Bayerischer Kammerschauspieler” (‘Bavarian Chamber Actor’).
Klaus Müller has been working part-time as an illustrator and cartoonist since his student days. For his drawings, he first sketches his ideas in pencil. This drawing is then outlined with a black pen and supplemented with speech bubbles and explanatory texts. Finally, it is coloured, scanned and sent to the editorial office of the Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung. In the culture section, the subtle observations then delight the readers of the weekend edition.
