‚repeat after me‘ (videoinstallation)
28.06.2025, 10-17 h & 19-00 h at Liebertzimmer des Schaezlerpalais
In the video installation 'repeat after me', which was shown at the 2024 Biennale in the Polish pavilion in the Giardini in Venice, visitors can expect a bizarre karaoke situation: Ukrainian war refugees can be seen sharing their memories and knowledge of the very specific sounds of war with the mostly fortunately inexperienced viewers by imitating typical war sounds. The acoustic difference between assault rifle fire, artillery fire or the alarm signal for an air raid determines the reaction to the attack and, in case of doubt, can save lives. This kind of “karaoke lesson” not only teaches survival strategies, but also impressively demonstrates the reality in which the civilian population of Ukraine has been living for over three years following the Russian invasion.
On Friday, June 27, artists from the Open Group will be in Augsburg to discuss their installation in an artist talk starting at 7 pm.
The work can also be seen during the ‘Lange Kunstnacht’ on June 28 from 10-17 h and 19-00 h.
In co-operation with the Cultural Office (Kulturamt) and the Peace Office (Friedensbüro) of the City of Augsburg.
