Romans at the Penalty SpotWhat is the connection between FCA and Augusta Vindelicum?

From December 17, 2025 at Römerlager im Zeughaus

Where Augsburg's football stadium stands today, there was once a Roman settlement. During the construction of the arena, numerous artefacts were unearthed that bear witness to prosperity and a connected world. These are now on display in a small exhibition at the Roman camp in the Zeughaus. Numerous items are on display, ranging from jewellery and colourful glass vessels to wine and fish sauce amphorae from Rhodes and Spain.

Augsburg's Roman DNA is also reflected in the profile of FCA. It is the only Bundesliga club that deliberately refers to its Roman past with a Roman stone monument (pine cone) in its coat of arms. In addition to the ancient objects from the excavation at the arena, the exhibition therefore also shows the FCA's current reception of the Romans.
