SYMBIOSIS | Art between man and nature Paul Diestel | Clare Langan | Christiane Löhr | Nathan Peter

29.11.2025 – 21.06.2026 at Kunsthalle Augsburg im Glaspalast

The exhibition ‘SYMBIOSIS | Art between man and nature’ at the Kunsthalle im Glaspalast examines the complex relationship between man and nature. It poses the question of how art can make this connection aesthetically and conceptually tangible. Through the works of the four selected international artists - Paul Diestel, Christiane Löhr, Clare Langan and Nathan Peter - the symbiosis of man and nature is illuminated in various facets: from the fragility of natural processes to the poetic narrative of the landscape to materiality and design as an expression of natural forces. The contrasts and harmonies between natural processes and human influence are made tangible.

The exhibition in Hall 1, the so-called ‘H1’, is designed as a multi-sensory experience on around 1,100 square metres and integrates various media - painting, drawing, sculpture, installation and video art. The spatial staging creates a dialogue between the works, allowing visitors to experience the interplay between man and nature sensually, emotionally and intellectually through the exhibited artworks.

The combination of poetic narrative, aesthetic precision and individual experiences builds a bridge between art, nature and the visitors. In this way, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the connection between humans and nature, to be inspired and to develop new perspectives on responsible coexistence. The exhibition creates a space in which art, nature and different levels of human perception merge together.

We cordially invite you to the exhibition opening on Saturday, 29 November 2025, at 11 am!

Artists

In his sculptures and installations, the German sculptor Paul Diestel (*1996) explores fleeting moments in which man and nature meet. His works often combine minimalist lines with natural materials, creating a meditative dialogue between nature and human intervention.

Irish filmmaker and video artist Clare Langan (*1967) focuses on landscapes, often in a state of transition or destruction. She creates melancholic and atmospheric images that reflect the impact of man on nature. Langan's filmic works are sensual meditations on time, space and the transformation of natural habitats due to climate change.

German artist Christiane Löhr (*1965) works with natural materials such as seeds, grasses, flowers and animal hair, which she moulds into delicate sculptures. Her works reflect the precision and fragility of natural systems and remind us of the need for respect and mindfulness when dealing with nature. Löhr's installations pay homage to the elegance and delicacy of natural structures and embody the concept of the coexistence of man and nature.

In his works, US artist Nathan Peter (*1978) works with layers and superimpositions that merge natural and artificial elements. His paintings, reliefs and installations deal intensively with the concept of transformation - be it through erosion processes, weathering or the deliberate intervention of man. Peter often uses materials such as wood, bitumen, metal, textiles and pigments to create a connection to nature and at the same time visualise its manipulation by humans.

The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue (German/English).
