"The citizen's hat flies off his pointed head". Facade projection by LAB BINÆR and Felix Weinold, 2023

10/20/2023–10/22/2023, Fassade of the Schaezlerpalais in the Rokoko-Garten

An audiovisual music piece as a façade projection by LAB BINÆR and Felix Weinold for the Light Nights Augsburg 2023.

Based on one of the most famous expressionist poems, "Weltende" by Jakob van Hoddis (1887-1942), first published in 1911, the artists developed a large-scale projection for the garden facade of the Schaezlerpalais on behalf of the Kunstsammlungen & Museen Augsburg.

The poem, which seems amazingly current a good hundred years after it was written, serves as an associative surface for an audio-visual tableau. Against the backdrop of the special location, a rococo palace with gallery, the classical ideas of the four elements as well as emergence and decay are translated in a contemporary way.

For the facade projection, a real scale model of the facade and real film footage were used. The realization is thus a fusion of classical and, in post-production, the most current techniques.

Prologue: Klaus Müller, State Theater Augsburg
